The Tallahassee Civic Chorale will present its fall concert “Joy, Peace & Hope” at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Turner Auditorium on the Tallahassee Community College campus, accompanied by special guests The Capital Children’s Choir from FSU.
The Children’s Choir will sing several selections of their own, in addition to singing “Music Changes the World” and “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” with the Chorale.
“It has been many years since we have sung with the Capital Children’s Choir, and we are very much looking forward to our collaboration at this concert,” says long-time Chorale and Board member Chris Gorsuch.
The Capital Children’s Choir is a community outreach program for children in Kindergarten through eighth grade which is sponsored by the College of Music at Florida State University and has been directed by Dr. Suzanne Rita Byrnes since 2006. Dr. Byrnes hails from Ottawa, Canada, was the director of the Kansas City Children’s Chorus for 12 years, and is currently a member of the Music Education/Music Therapy faculty at FSU.
This concert will appeal to all ages, offering a broad range of seasonal and holiday music, from traditional carols such as The First Noel, to popular seasonal music such as Feliz Navidad and hauntingly beautiful songs such as O Magnum Mysterium. There will also be a free cookie reception after the concert to help us spread even more holiday cheer!

The Tallahassee Civic Chorale was established in 1986 and is a non-profit, non-audition community singing ensemble consisting of approximately 40 to 50 singers, and organized in traditional choral SATB fashion. We perform three major concerts annually in the fall, spring and summer, usually in Turner Auditorium on the Tallahassee Community College campus.
We also share our love of singing through performances at local events such as the Festival of Lights. For each concert, the Chorale tailors a special program for several local assisted living facilities, retirement centers and other groups unable to attend the concert.
